Broad Spectrum O/W SPF 40 Sunscreen Cream

This sunscreen lotion formulation was designed to provide broad spectrum (SPF/PFA ≤3) label SPF 40 performance. SolaStay® S1 provides very rapid and efficient excited state quenching of Avobenzone, protecting it from photodegradation, while also mitigating the photocatalytic and reactive oxygen species generating activities of the oxide, improving sunscreen performance. HallBrite® BHB aids UV filter solubility and enhances product feel. This formulation was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~ 40, PFA (PPD) ~ 29 performance with critical wavelength 380 nm.

PREPARATIVE PROCEDURE

1In secondary vessel add phase A and start mixing. Disperse phase B with continue mixing.
2Heat AB to 85°C and then, add phase C with mixing.
3Add phase D into ABC and mix well until phase D is dissolved.
4Add water and glycerin of phase E to the main vessel, dissolve EDTA with mixing and then add Xanthan Gum.
5When solids of phase E are fully incorporated, start heating to 80°C.
6When both phases are homogenous and at temperature, slowly add oil phase (ABCD) to the water phase (DE) with prop mixing.
7Start homogenizing for 3 minutes. Return to prop mixing, and start cooling down until room temperature.
8Add phase F ingredients when batch < 40°C with mixing. Replace any water lost to evaporation, and mix until smooth.
