This sunscreen lotion was designed to provide broad spectrum (SPF/PFA ≤3) performance. SolaStay® S1 is incorporated to rapidly and efficiently quench the excited states of Avobenzone, protecting it from photodegradation and so improving sunscreen performance. HallBrite® BHB contributes to UV filter solubility and enhanced product feel. This formulation was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~32, PFA (PPD) ~14 performance with critical wavelength 378 nm.

1 | To a secondary vessel add phase A, start mixing, add phase B ingredients, heat to 80°C and then add phase C ingredients, in order. |
2 | When phase ABC is homogeneous, add phase D with continued mixing to ensure phase D is well dispersed. |
3 | To the main vessel, add the water from phase E, dissolve Tetrasodium EDTA and, with continued mixing, add Xanthan Gum. |
4 | When Xanthan Gum is fully incorporated heat phase E to 80°C. |
5 | When both phases are homogeneous and at their designated temperatures, slowly add oil phase ABCD to water phase E with prop mixing. |
6 | Start homogenizing combined phases and homogenize for 3 minutes or until batch cools to 55°C. |
7 | Resume prop mixing and when batch is below 45°C add premix of phase F and then phase G ingredients, in order, with continued mixing. |
8 | Cool batch to room temperature, replace any water lost to evaporation and mix until smooth. |
