This formulation was designed to provide superb broad spectrum (SPF/PFA <<3), UVA/UVB 5 stars, label SPF 30 performance. SolaStay® S1 provides very rapid and efficient excited state quenching of Avobenzone, protecting it from photodegradation, and also mitigates the photocatalytic and reactive oxygen species generating activities of Titanium Dioxide to improve sunscreen performance. HallBrite® BHB contributes to UV filter solubility and enhanced product feel. This formulation was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~32 , PFA (PPD) ~18 performance with critical wavelength 380 nm (UVA/UVB 0.91 – 0.86).

1 | In secondary vessel combine phase A and start mixing. Slowly add phase B with continued mixing. |
2 | Heat this phase AB to 85°C and add phase C items in order while mixing. Then add phase D and mix until dissolved. |
3 | Add water of phase E to main vessel and with continued mixing add Disodium EDTA and when dissolved add Xanthan Gum. |
4 | When phase E items are fully incorporated, start heating phase E to 80°C and add premixed phase F with mixing. |
5 | When both phases are homogeneous and at their designated temperatures, slowly add phase ABCD to phase EF with prop mixing. |
6 | Homogenize combined phases for 3 minutes, resume prop mixing, start cooling and add phase G when batch is below 50°C. |
7 | Continue mixing and cooling until batch is at room temperature, replace any water lost to evaporation , and mix until smooth. |
