Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Sunscreen Lotion

This formula provides broad-spectrum sun protection by using high polarity sunscreen solvents and HallBrite@ PSF, a novel triplet state quenching organomodified silicone polymer, to enhance the photostability of Avobenzone. HallBrite@ PSF also improves the feel and spreadability of formulations, provides detackifications and anti-whitening benefits, and enhances substantivity and water resistance. This composition was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~17, PFA (PPD) ~9 performance with critical wavelength 376 nm.

PREPARATIVE PROCEDURE

1To the main vessel, add the liquids from phase A and start mixing. Dissolve the Disodium EDTA, then add the Xanthan.
2Mix phase A until Xanthan is fully incorporated and then begin heating to 85°C.
3In a separate vessel, add phase B ingredients and start mixing. When solution is homogenous, add phase C to phase B.
4Begin heating phase BC to 85°C with continued mixing. When Avobenzone is dissolved, add phase D ingredients to phase BC, in order.
5When both phases are at temperature and homogenous, add oil phase BCD to water phase A with prop mixing.
6Homogenize for 3 minutes or until 55°C, then return to prop mxing. At 45°C or lower, add phase E ingredients, one by one, with mixing.
7Continue mixing and cooling until room temperature, replace any water lost, mix until smooth. Perform quality assurance checks.
