This sunscreen lotion formulation was designed to provide broad spectrum (SPF/PFA ≤3) label SPF 30 performance. HallBrite® ISO provides very rapid and efficient excited state quenching of Avobenzone, protecting it from photodegradation and so improves sunscreen performance. HallBrite® BHB aids UV filter solubility and enhances product feel. This formulation was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~ 33, PFA (PPD) ~ 10 performance with critical wavelength 378 nm.

1 | In a secondary vessel combine phase A and mix well. Dissolve phase B in phase A with mixing and heat phase AB to 80°C. |
2 | Add phase C to phase AB with mixing until homogeneous. |
3 | In the main vessel, add water of phase D and dissolve EDTA. When EDTA has dissolved, add Xanthan Gum and mix until fully incorporated. |
4 | Heat main vessel to 80°C and add premix of phase E. |
5 | When oil phase (ABC) and water phase (DE) are both homogeneous and at designated temperatures, slowly add oil phase to water phase with prop mixing. Then homogenize for 3 mins, resume prop mixing and start cooling. |
6 | Add premixed phase F into phase ABCDE to bring pH to 7.5-8.0. |
7 | When batch is below 50°C add phase G individually with mixing. |
8 | When the batch is uniform, add deionized water to correct for evaporative losses and continue mixing until smooth. |
