Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen Cream

This formulation yields a broad spectrum (SPF/PFA ≤3) sunscreen cream. SolaStay® S1 is incorporated to mitigate the photocatalytic and reactive oxygen species generating activities of Titanium Dioxide and to rapidly and efficiently quench the excited states of Avobenzone. This product was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~55, PFA (PPD) ~30 performance with critical wavelength 379 nm.

PREPARATIVE PROCEDURE

1In secondary vessel combine phase A and start mixing. Slowly add phase B to phase A with continued mixing and fully disperse.
2Heat phase AB to 85°C and then add phase C items to it in order with mixing. When homogenous, add phase D to phase ABC with mixing.
3Add the water from phase E to the main vessel, dissolve the Disodium EDTA with continued mixing and then add Xanthan Gum, stirring until fully incorporated before continuing. Then start heating phase E to 80°C and add premix phase F to it.
4Make phase G solution, bringing its pH to 7.5 - 8.0 by adjusting the Sodium Hydroxide level as needed, and then add it to phase EF.
5When both phases are homogeneous and at their designated temperatures, slowly add the oil phase ABCD to the water phase EFG with prop mixing. Homogenize for 3 minutes, then resume prop mixing and cool with mixing until batch is at room temperature.
