Oil in Water SPF 30 Sunscreen Cream

This formulation was designed to provide SPF 30 performance with only 20% HallBrite® EZ-FLO TDX dispersion. HallBrite® BHB (Butyloctyl Salicylate in the dispersion aids wetting and dispersion of the Titanium Dioxide and enhanced product feel. This composition was subjected to in vitro analysis and delivered SPF ~35, PFA (PPD) ~6 performance with critical wavelength 372 nm. One person in vivo testing yielded static SPF 34.6 in support of in vitro results.

PREPARATIVE PROCEDURE

1In secondary vessel add phase A, start mixing.
2Heat A to 85°C and then, add phase B with mixing.
3Add water and Glycerin of phase C to the main vessel, dissolve EDTA with mixing and then add Xanthan Gum, stirring until fully incorporated.
4Heat phase C to 80°C.
5When both phases are homogenous and at their designated temperatures, slowly add Oil phase (AB) to the water phase (C) with prop mixing.
6Start homogenizing for 3 mins. Resume prop mixing, and start cooling down until room temperature.
7One by one add phase D when batch < 40°C with mixing. Add phase E if batch is too thin.
8Replace any water lost to evaporation, and mix until smooth.
